Moonshot Thinking
At The VR School, we embrace Moonshot Thinking - a mindset that encourages students to tackle ambitious challenges and develop innovative solutions that can make a significant impact on the world.
Stanford Collaboration
Our Moonshot Thinking curriculum was developed in collaboration with Stanford University, combining cutting-edge educational research with practical applications in the classroom. This pioneering approach has positioned The VR School at the forefront of educational innovation.
Through collaborative research and design thinking methodologies, our students learn to approach complex problems with creativity and purpose. The Stanford d.school's influence is evident in our emphasis on human-centered design, rapid prototyping, and iterative development.
Key Elements of Moonshot Thinking
Our Moonshot Thinking approach is built on these foundational elements that guide students in developing transformative solutions.
10X Thinking
Students learn to think beyond incremental improvements and aim for transformative solutions that are ten times better than existing approaches.
Design Thinking
Students apply design thinking methodologies to identify problems, prototype solutions, and iterate based on feedback. This human-centered approach ensures solutions address real needs.
Global Impact
Projects focus on addressing significant global challenges, encouraging students to think beyond local contexts and consider worldwide implications.
Collaborative Innovation
Our approach emphasizes teamwork and cross-disciplinary collaboration to tackle complex challenges from multiple perspectives.
Rapid Prototyping
Students learn to quickly develop and test prototypes, embracing failure as a learning opportunity and refining solutions through iterative cycles.
Breakthrough Technology
Projects leverage emerging technologies like VR, AI, and blockchain to create solutions that weren't possible before, pushing the boundaries of innovation.
Beyond Stanford 2025
Watch as VR School student Ian Jiang joins Moonshots Captain Astro Teller, our Founding Superintendent Dr. Freedom Cheteni, and industry leaders at SRI to envision education's next frontier. Having achieved our 2025 milestone, we're now building the next decade of educational innovation.
This collaboration exemplifies our commitment to connecting students with industry leaders and providing opportunities for them to contribute to meaningful conversations about the future of education and technology.
Moonshot Projects in Action
Our students apply Moonshot Thinking to develop innovative solutions to real-world challenges. Here are some examples of their transformative projects.
Healthcare Innovation
Students interviewed UCSF Medical Center nurses and patients to redesign hospital experiences using biometric sensors. Their project was recognized by Oracle and Forbes publications for its innovative approach to patient care.
Environmental Monitoring System
Students developed a network of low-cost sensors to monitor air and water quality in underserved communities. Their system provides real-time data to residents and policymakers, empowering community-led environmental advocacy.
Educoin Blockchain Project
In 2019, our Moonshots cohort launched Educoin, a blockchain cryptocurrency for educational achievement. This innovative system creates verifiable credentials and incentivizes learning through a token economy.
Accessibility VR Tools
Students created VR tools that make immersive learning experiences accessible to students with disabilities. Their innovations include haptic feedback systems for visually impaired users and adaptive interfaces for various needs.
